Formaline is composed of formol or formalin: a solution of 35-40% of the chemical formaldehyde in water.
The solution also contains methanol at about 10-15%.
Formalin solutions of more than 5% formaldehyde, such as Formaline, are used as a powerful, industrial detergent.
Formaline is used foto sterilize heat-sensitive objects, including blood-stained instruments, cystoscopes, and laparoscopes.
In its gaseous form, Formaline is also used in the medical and pharmaceutical industries.
Similarly, it is used as an environmental disinfectant, to clean extremely contaminated rooms.
Rooms cleaned with Formaline must be aired after treatment.
Caution must be exercised when using Formaline.
